Ten Titles (and Thirteen Books) for Brigit

I am revising my online course, Discovering Brigit, and wanted to update the brief book list included there. These books are the ones I would point people to first, for a variety of reasons. Recall that I have a slew of unread and therefore unreviewed Brigit books, which I hope to get to over the next year and a bit. But for now, I’d like to share this with you.

Only one, Ó Duinn’s Rites of Brigid, is out of print, but you should be able to get that on interlibrary loan.

"Brigantia (Volume 2)” Kickstarter Kicking Off Today!

 

I love the Brigantia graphic novels and have been supporting Chris Mole’s project from the beginning. This is the end! Brigantia (Volume 2) collects issues #4-#6 of the acclaimed indie fantasy/pagan comic series Brigantia as a 128-page graphic novel. Vol. 1 is also available and for today only there is a discount for acquiring one or both issues, in digital only or physical form.

Working with @tarrigan on this story has been an absolutely incredible experience, and I'm very grateful for everything she's done - she's pushed me to be a better writer and I think the positive reaction to issue #1 shows the strength of that collaboration.

Issue #2 of #Brigantia (with @adityab on letters) unfortunately won't be ready in time for @ThoughtBubbleUK, but we should have a little 10-page preview to hand out to you guys there with the full issue coming early 2020. We'll have more details in the coming months!

Brigantia #2: Funding Unsuccessful

Funding Unsuccessful Posted by Chris Mole (Creator) Hey everybody, As you'll probably have seen, we've unfortunately failed to reach our funding target before the end of the campaign, which means that none of your pledges will be collected. We're going to take some time over Christmas to go back to the drawing board and figure out what to do going forward - we still want to tell Brigantia's story, so we'll try and come up with a way of making that happen. As soon as we've got a plan, we'll let you know! We're obviously disappointed that we couldn't reach the goal, but it's hard to be too upset - we've been bowled over by all of your support for the campaign and all the nice things you've been posting about the story and artwork. Brigantia #1, Chris Mole and Melissa Trender (2017):

I was surprised and thrilled when I saw Nimue Brown's retweet of Chris Mole's Kickstarter announcement for Brigantia #2. I had not known that #1 existed and I wanted to know more. A quick look at the Kickstarter page told me this was a comic I definitely wanted to read. A seven foot tall, red-haired goddess who fights to protect her people, who is hurled through time to our century, who is wonderfully drawn.

So here I am with #1. I love the liveliness and clarity of the art. A goddess and a god in mortal combat open the issue, followed by the abrupt arrival of Brigantia in the London Underground. The land still speaks to her, but it is strange and incomprehensible; her people, those who believe in her, are long gone. Yet when she was taken from them they were in desperate need of her protection.  

Now, one voice rises in prayer to her, her nemesis appears again, and the battle continues.

A fast-moving and enjoyable read based on the goddess of the Brigantes, Brigantia #1 combines the exhilaration of the superhero comic with a sensibility for the land and her people. It will appeal to Pagans and non-Pagans alike. 

Now! To raise the funds for #2! Just a few days left for the Kickstarter campaign. Donate as little as a £ to enable artist Melissa Trender to work full-time on the project and get it to us by May 2019. (Rewards abound, and I personally have my eye on paper copies of both issues.)

Oh, so terribly cool! I hadn't heard of this comic, completely missed issue one. Now issue two is seeking funds to support the artist and allow her to work on it full time, pay the letterer, and cover printing costs. Have a look at their fund-raising video and the gorgeous art at this address:

Welcome! The purpose of this campaign is to raise the production and print funds (to pay for the cost of artwork, lettering and printing) of issue #2 of Brigantia, an independent comic book series by writer Chris Mole, artist Melissa Trender and letterer Aditya Bidikar.
